World renowned and multiple-Grammy Award nominated singer/songwriter Bebel Gilberto will appear at the Hawaii Theatre on Thursday, September 21st at 7:30pm.
Gilberto and her family are considered Brazilian music royalty: her father is legendary Brazilian guitarist/composer João Gilberto, her mother is celebrated songstress Miúcha, her uncle is the multifaceted performer/composer/playwright Chico Buarque, and her stepmother, her “eternal Muse”, was the famed “Girl from Ipanema”, Astrud Gilberto.
With their influences firmly embedded in her spirit, Bebel has been enchanting fans and critics since her solo debut on the worldwide hit compilation CD, RED HOT + RIO, in 1986, which catapulted Bebel onto the global music scene with her track “Preciso Dizer Que Te Amo”. A follow-up dance hit entitled “Tanto Tempo” in 2000 and four Grammy Award nominations followed, making Bebel one of the top-selling Brazilian artists of all time.
Her latest recording, a loving homage to her father entitled JOĀO, is scheduled for release on August 23rd.
